Jami O'Conner
Jami O’Connor is a first grade teacher in Cobb County. She is working on her Masters in
Instructional Technology. Since
starting her program, Jami has used her courses to help design
WebQuests, Webpages and multimedia presentations that she can use with her
elementary-aged classes. She is working on
creating a comic strip with her class right now to help teach informational
writing in a variety of ways. She
is also working on an eBook for her lower level students to assist them with
their learning. Jami incorporates
technology into all of her lessons and uses as many varieties as possible to
help further the knowledge of her students.
Angela Pieniaszek
Angela Pieniaszek is a high school Spanish teacher in Walton County. She teaches Spanish grades 9-12 levels 1-4. She is working on her M.Ed in Instructional technology. As a child, her first and favorite comic was "The Incredible Hulk." She enjoys incorporating the use of comics into the classroom to give students the opportunity to use this medium in conjunction with second language learning.
Christina Phyall
Christina Phyall is a second grade teacher in Newton County Schools. She is currently pursuing a degree in media and technology. As a child, her first experiences with comics were in the Sunday newspaper. She would often read the comic, “The Family Circus.” She thinks that comics are a great way to teach across the curriculum and enjoys sharing them with her students.
Mary Pope
Mary Pope is a kindergarten teacher in Cobb County School District. She is working on her Ed.S. in Instructional Technology. Since taking this course, she has been incorporating comic creation into Writer’s Workshop in order to differentiate for higher leveled writers. The students have been challenged to think creatively and use more details in their illustrations to tell their stories. Seeing comics used in writing has also motivated reluctant writers to improve their writing skills.
